Tsinghua University's Anniversary Online Celebration

On April 1, 2021, in preparation for the 110th anniversary celebration of the university and to update Malaysian alumni and friends interested in Tsinghua's development, the Tsinghua University Education Foundation, Tsinghua Alumni Association, Malaysia Tsinghua University Council, APAC Tsinghua CEO CCI, and the our association jointly organized the "Tsinghua University and Malaysia Together Online Event." Professor Li Daokui, the Freeman Chair in Economics at Tsinghua University and Dean of the Institute of Chinese Economic Thought and Practice, Tsinghua Alumni Association Secretary-General Tang Jie, and Zhao Jinsong, Deputy Secretary-General of the Tsinghua University Education Foundation, remotely shared and exchanged information with participants through video. The event was hosted by Fu Xuan, Assistant Secretary-General of the Tsinghua University Education Foundation.


More than 60 Malaysian Tsinghua students, alumni, and friends, including Malaysia Tsinghua University Council Chairman Tan Sri Barry Goh, Secretary-General of the APAC Tsinghua CEO CCI Yang Renjie, and President of our association Liew Chee Wei, participated in the event. An offline venue was also set up in Kuala Lumpur.

Tang Jie, Secretary-General of the Tsinghua Alumni Association, first introduced the preparations for the anniversary celebration and alumni work. He shared the overall plan for the 110th anniversary celebration and departmental celebrations through four aspects: core activities, core support, traditional work, and innovative breakthroughs. Tang Jie introduced the history and development of the alumni association, the five-dimensional contact system, anniversary activities, and the "Two Publications, One Website, Three Numbers" publicity matrix. He invited Malaysian alumni to participate in the alumni innovation contest and the lifelong learning support plan, encouraging them to contribute their intellectual, experiential, and resource advantages and actively serve as alumni mentors and volunteers.

Zhao Jinsong, Deputy Secretary-General of the Tsinghua University Education Foundation, introduced the foundation's functions, development history, and innovative work. He shared information about the "Better Tsinghua" fundraising campaign initiated for the 110th anniversary celebration and the foundation's efforts in combating COVID-19. Zhao Jinsong expressed gratitude to Malaysian entrepreneurs and organizations for their support of campus construction and student scholarships at Tsinghua University.

Professor Li Daokui discussed China's economic development trends during the 14th Five-Year Plan, the challenges and opportunities facing the Chinese economy, and the development characteristics of China's economy and finance in the next five years. He emphasized that the next five years are a period of profound adjustment for the Chinese economy, with many opportunities in the economic and financial sectors. He urged alumni to explore investment opportunities in China and hoped that Tsinghua alumni would care about and support the development of Tsinghua University.

In the Q&A session, Li Daokui addressed questions raised by Malaysian alumni representatives about China-Malaysia economic and trade cooperation during the 14th Five-Year Plan. Attendees expressed their hope for Tsinghua University to organize more professors to regularly teach alumni on topics related to people's livelihood, education, and economics and finance. They also expressed their willingness to cooperate with relevant academic institutions at Tsinghua University to tell compelling stories about China that the world can understand.
