Tsinghua Vice President Yang Bin Visits Malaysia for Alumni Luncheon and Exchange

On August 4, 2024, Tsinghua University's Vice President, Yang Bin, visited Malaysia and had lunch with Tsinghua alumni and guests, sharing the latest developments of the university and the situation of Malaysian students studying at Tsinghua.

At the luncheon, Yang Bin introduced the recent developments of Tsinghua University to the attendees. He mentioned that as times change, Tsinghua University continues to adapt by adding various new schools and courses. This April, coinciding with Tsinghua University's 113th anniversary, the school established an Artificial Intelligence Institute, becoming the latest highlight. Additionally, Computer Science, Automotive Engineering, Automation, Xinya College, and Electronic Engineering remain the most popular disciplines among students. Yang Bin also elaborated on how Tsinghua University seeks technological breakthroughs and maintains its leading position amid the current tense global situation. He also praised the academic and extracurricular performances of Malaysian students at Tsinghua.

Dato' Yap Kuak Fong, President of the Malaysia Tsinghua University Council, stated in his speech that the council plays a significant role in the Malaysian education sector and in fostering relations between the two countries. He expressed hope that more Malaysian students would study at Tsinghua University in the future and called for Tsinghua to establish more courses in Malaysia to meet local students' needs.

Tan Sri Nelson Tan, President of the APAC Tsinghua CEO CCI, also spoke at the event. He praised Tsinghua University's outstanding achievements in technology and education and expressed hope that through the efforts of the Asia-Pacific Tsinghua, the university would further strengthen its cooperation with the Malaysian business community. He also hoped to organize more educational activities to allow more people who have not had the chance to attend Tsinghua to experience its culture and academic atmosphere.

Hong Zi Shen, President of ​The Association of Graduates from Tsinghua University Malaysia, introduced the association's development in Malaysia over the years to Vice President Yang and the guests. This year marks the 9th anniversary of the alumni association, which now has over 600 alumni in Malaysia, with nearly 40 to 60 Malaysian students studying at Tsinghua annually. Hong Zi Shen called on alumni to enhance cohesion, foster unity and friendship, and maintain good relations with other organizations to build a robust network and increase visibility.

The luncheon was attended by 50 leaders and alumni from Tsinghua, both domestic and international, who gathered to discuss various possibilities, including inter-company cooperation. This event not only strengthened the ties between Tsinghua University and its Malaysian alumni but also laid a solid foundation for further collaboration in education and technology between the two sides.
